Alternative text: I use to make 'Fizzes' all the time and I kind of miss making them. I personally do not mind mixologizing this laborsome drink, but having them sparingly is the best treat. Rum Fizz: 2 oz @privateerrum Silver 1.5 oz lemon and lime juice 3/4 oz Orgeat 1/2 oz Salted Vanilla Pineapple Syrup 1 drop Almond Extract Egg white 1 oz cream Seltzer Mint leaf for garnish Add all ingredients, except Seltzer and mint to a shaker with one big ice cube. Shake hard for 15 seconds. I'm not a nut job that shakes for several minutes, you only need 15-30 seconds. Add an ounce of Seltzer to a chilled Collins glass and strain in your drink down the center from a couple inches high. Stop when the head hits the top of the glass and wait for merengue to settle. Pour slowly down the center and watch the head rise. Go slow and don't get too greedy. Garnish and throw a straw in and crush it.
Alternative text: A favorite afternoon sipper of mine: The Veronica CornNStone. This original cocktail features a grapefruit peel as a garnish, which is drastically underused in stirred drinks. It imparts bright flavor that compliments many liquors/liqueurs/Amari. Veronica CornNStone: 2 oz Bourbon (corn) 3/4 oz Punt e Mes 1/2 oz Ramazzotti Amaro Barspoon gum syrup 1 dash cherry bitters (stone) 1 dash apricot bitters (stone) Grapefruit peel Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and stir. Strain into a chilled rocks glass. Garnish. Amaro Meletti and Amaro Lucano also work nicely here. Gum syrup is for mouth feel. I highly suggest adding it or 2:1 simple syrup.
Alternative text: The wife asked for a Strawberry Mojito...I like to use as many fresh ingredients for cocktails as I can and since it's strawberry season here in Maine, this was a no-brainer. Strawberry Mojo 1.5 oz @privateerrum Silver .75 oz lime juice .75 oz simple syrup 3-4 strawberries, whole Bunch of mint, more for garnish Seltzer water Muddle strawberries, mint and simple syrup. Add lime juice and rum with a few large ice cubes to a shaker and shake the sh*t of it. Double strain into a Collins glass with fresh ice. Top with Seltzer or Soda water. Add mint garnish. I also added two drops of saline solution to this to make it a bit sweeter and for the strawberry/mint flavor to pop. Totally optional.
Alternative text: 3-Day simple syrup...is that a thing? Probably not, but it was well worth it because it makes everything delicious. This Spiced Local Blueberry syrup simmered twice and sat and infused twice for 12+ hours. It started as the juice for my brandied blueberries. Blueberry Daq 2 oz @privateerrum Silver 1 oz lime juice 1 oz 3-Day Blueberry Syrup Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with a mint leaf. There's also a brandied blueberry in there but is optional. I can't even tell you what's exactly in the 3-Day Blueberry Syrup. It started out with blueberries, sugar (two types), lemon peel, Allspice, Privateer Silver, Vanilla Infused Cognac and then simmered. Then the leftover juice simmered again with cloves, cinnamon, and Benedictine. Then cooled again (with all stuff) for at least 12 to 24 hours. Strained and cooled. I may have missed an ingredient or two though...
Alternative text: There is a #Tiki seminar tomorrow @huntandalpine with some of ur favorite Boston cocktail people, @brothercleve and @seanfrederick. I don't think we'll be there but it inspired us to make some Tiki drinks tonight. Unnamed, Common Tiki Drink: 1 oz Plantation Original Dark Rum 1/2 oz Plantation Stiggins Pineapple Rum 1/2 oz Pierre Ferrand 1840 Cognac (Vanilla infused) 1 oz Lime juice 1/2 oz Pineapple juice 1/2 oz Orgeat Syrup 1/2 oz Tiki Simple Syrup (recipe on HBS) 3/4 ozAmontillado Sherry 1 dash Angostura Bitters, top 1 dash saline Crushed ice One awesome highball glass Fresh mint, garnish A time-sensitive umbrella, garnish Shake ingredients with ice and double strain into Highball or Collins glass with fresh, crushed ice. Garnish and crush it. You deserve this.
Alternative text: Yard Mojitos with our favorite Silver Rum @privateerrum. Cheers friends. Yard Mojito 2 oz Privateer Silver Rum 1 oz lime juice 3/4 mint syrup Top with Seltzer Bunch of mint A yard Cornhole Shatterproof glasses Muddle mint gently in syrup. Add rum, lime and ice and shake. Strain into glass with fresh ice and top with Seltzer. Play Cornhole with wife and eat BBQ.
Alternative text: It was 90+ degrees yesterday and all I wanted was a frozen Margarita. This drink didn't last long and I'm not exactly sure what recipe I did - so this is a guess but close. Frozen Blue Margarita 3 oz El Jimador Blanco Tequila 1 oz lemon juice .75 oz lime juice 1 oz blue Curacao 1.25 simple syrup 1 cup ice Salt for rim Add all ingredients to a blender and blend well. Pour into a chilled glass with a salt rim and garnish with a Corona if you got one. Because I did (not pictured). #daydrinking
Alternative text: Martini Happy Hour. Happy Friday, everyone! Martini 2.5 oz London Dry Gin (Beefeater) .75 oz Dry Vermouth (Boisserie) Lemon peel for garnish Add ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a chilled coupe glass, express lemon peel and garnish.
Alternative text: Vanilla and Hickory Smoked Manhattan via @barcheftoronto. My version is slightly different than theirs but still delicious. Vanilla and Hickory Smoked Manhattan by Frankie Solarik 2 oz rye whiskey (I used Rittenhouse) 1/2 oz vanilla-infused Cognac (Homemade) 1/2 oz cherry and vanilla bitters (Napa Valley) 3/4 oz hickory-smoked syrup (I used the Smoking Gun with regular Demerara simple) 1 large ice cube Hickory wood chips 1 vanilla bean Cinnamon stick (not original but I burned too) Take wood chips, vanilla bean and cinnamon stick and place into smoking vessel and torch with a chef's torch. Cover. Add rye, bitters, syrup to a mixing glass with ice and stir. Pour over a chilled rocks glass with the large ice cube. Remove smoking chips. Place into smoking vessel for a few minutes. Remove drink and garnish (optional) with orange peel. I goty smoking vessel at HomeGoods, they have tons of them. Torch is from Amazon but any restaurant supply store will have.
Alternative text: My Graceland bar is @barcheftoronto. Their cocktail book and bar manager, @frankiesolarik, are amazing. This incredibly approachable, industry inspired, whiskey drink is the Dublin. Dublin by Frankie Solarik 1.5 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey (I used Teeling) 1/2 oz Cynar 1/2 oz sweet vermouth (I used Punt e Mes) 1 oz Vanilla syrup (I used 3/4 oz) 2 thumb sized orange rind Cinnamon, grated for garnish In a mixing glass, add all ingredients and muddle the orange rinds. Add ice and stir. Strain into a chilled rocks glass. Garnish with freshly grated cinnamon. Tomorrow, their smoked hickory and Vanilla Manhattan...
Alternative text: How about a vodka drink? This one you will love, I promise. One of my #Summer staples - The Palmyra from @no9Park in #Boston. Created in 1998, this is perhaps the best classic cocktail from Boston. The Palmyra by Tom Mastricola 2 oz vodka (Aylesbury Duck Vodka) 3/4 oz lime juice 3/4 oz mint simple syrup (muddle mint if you don't have mint syrup) Like wedge and mint sprig for garnish Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake hard. Double strain into a chilled cocktail coupe. Garnish with a mint sprig and lime wedge - use a mint sprig with double leafs and tuck under lime wedge like wings. - via Liza Weisstuch #mainecocktails
Alternative text: I'm not a big day drinker these days except when it's a low abv drink, like a Pimm's Cup. We finally had a nice Spring day in Maine so afternoon deck cocktails seemed appropriate. Pimm's Cup via @punch_drink 2 oz Pimm's #1 1/2 oz lemon juice 1/4 oz simple syrup 2 dashes Angostura bitters Cucumber slice Mint sprig Soda water Add Pimm's, lemon juice, simple and bitters to a Collins glass and stir. Add fresh ice and top with soda water and garnish with cucumber and mint. I sometimes add a 1/2 oz of Beefeater Gin and cut the Pimm's down to 1.5 oz. 7up or Ginger ale can be subbed for soda water.
Alternative text: "There will be a Mint Julep waiting on the other side, son." Happy #DerbyDay! 2.5 oz Kentucky Bourbon 1/2-3/4 oz Demerara syrup Bunch mint Mint sprig for garnish Muddle syrup and mint, add bourbon and give a quick stir. Add crushed ice about 3/4 of glass and stir again until glass is frosted. Top with more crushed ice and mint sprig.
Alternative text: We did well today. Our friends @privateerrum had a special release at their distillery today. If you haven't tasted their stuff, I highly recommend. Check out their distillery for a tour too. We grabbed some other local rums while we were at it. #madenotbought #distillersdrawer #savethebees #gingonetiki
Alternative text: Been quiet recently due to family visiting and home projects. Tonight, I take a page from @zerospecbebop and have an Old Fashioned from @robertosimonson's Old Fashioned cocktail book. The Whiskey Cocktail by Jerry Thomas 2 to 3 dashes gum syrup 2 dashes Bokers bitters 1 wine glass whiskey Lemon peel for garnish Over clear ice #mainecocktails #booze #happyhour #instadrink #instagood
Alternative text: It's almost May and we have the fireplace on... A chilly, wet night in #Maine calls for Bourbon. I love #cocktail riffs and this is a great one. The @anvilhouston Banana Boulevardier by Terry Williams: 1 oz Bourbon 1 oz sweet vermouth 1/2 oz Campari 1/2 oz Giffard Banana Orange peel for garnish Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a chilled rocks glass with a big ice cube and garnish. Dream of warmer weather. #whiskeywednesday #imbibe #imbibegram
Alternative text: The Arnold Palmer is one of my favorite drinks. It was a somewhat hot day here in Maine so I craving one, but with Bourbon. Adult Arnold Palmer 2.5 oz Mint tea infused Bourbon 2 oz homemade lemonade 2 oz black iced tea Lemon peel for garnish Mint sprig for garnish Add ingredients to cocktail shaker with ice and shake hard. Strain into Collins glass with fresh ice (I used crush ice). Garnish. #mainecocktails #happyhour
Alternative text: My wife and I recently moved to the Maine coast and I wanted to create a drink that captured the essence of the beach and ocean. Well, that idea failed but here is a Carribean version for you. Blur DTO with Coconut Air 2 oz @privateerrum Silver Rum 1/2 oz @privateerrum Queen's Share Rum 1 oz lime juice 1/2 oz @GiffardUSA Bleu Curacao 1/2 oz simple syrup Coconut "air" to top Dehydrated lime wheel with nutmeg dust Coconut Air is a variation from @barchef's cocktail book. The most beautiful drinks you will ever see. It uses Texturas Lecite, coconut milk, coconut water, lime juice, pineapple syrup and salt. #maine #mainecocktails #happyhour
Alternative text: Long day in the yard = deck cocktails. Southside Fizz 2 oz Gin 1 oz lemon juice 3/4 oz pink peppercorn simple syrup 2 dashes @CrudeBitters Rizzo Bitters Soda water Bunch mint (more for garnish) Cracked pepper (garnish) Add mint bunch to shaker with ice and rest of ingredients except soda water. Shake hard. Double strain into chilled Collins glass with fresh ice. Top with soda water. Garnish with mint sprig and cracked pepper. #mainecocktails
Alternative text: For my 3rd #LastWord variation, I wanted to try 2 things: use gin as my base spirit and make the drink green without the use of Green Chartreuse. I recently picked up two bottles of Luxardo Bitter Bianco and wanted to mix with it. For my gin, I wanted complimentary botanicals while playing with the #Tiki theme. @privateerrum's Tiki Finished Gin was the obvious choice. For the green color, I used mint. This drink combo works really well and will become a regular #summersipper. 3/4 oz Privateer Gin 3/4 oz Luxardo Bitter Bianco 3/4 oz Velvet Falernum 3/4 oz lime juice 2 mint leaves (more for garnish) Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake hard. Double strain into chilled coupe. Garnish with a mint leaf. No need to muddle the mint as the hard shake will do it for you. Cheers.
